AUNTIE JEAN'S AFRIKAN CULTURE MARKET (ACM)
The ACM is a Family community orintated that has been operating since 2014, on a monthly event that accurs the 3rd Sunday of each month.
Not just an ordinary market bt a market with a difference, not only can you purchase a wide range of orthentic Afrikan and Caribbean items, but also having a ShowCase Platform Hosted by a very Talanted Power Couple, Stella B. and Nat Nye, (Poetic Temple)
The ACM also have a Open Mic section and Poets called "The Garvey Village Poets" the brain child of Nate The Lyricist and each month they study a Leader Hero or Shero of Afrikan or Caribbean Our-Story (History) and recite their story's into Poetry on the Revolutionary Minds section of the ACM platform, which is also open to anyone wo would like to bring thier poetry to the platform.
We've had performances from children as young as six going right up the ages.
The Showcase Platform features the Sangoma Drummers who open and close the ACM as well as play inbetween Acts and Presentations.
Auntie Jean has run the Afrikan Cultural Market (ACM) a very successful monthly Family, community event, for over seven years. The market provides a unique space for people to browse and buy quality goods from vendors. It also provides an opportunity for people of African descent to exchange information, attend workshops and seminars on a wide variety of topics from our history, to parenting skills, to well-being, to trending social issues.
It is through her experience with the ACM that Auntie Jean identified the need for even greater support for small businesses, community groups as well as a place to support our children, young people, the working population and our senior citizens.
in response to demands from the monthly audiences at the Afrikan Culture Market (ACM) for a permanent platform for Information sharing, presentations and teachings on a range of matters and issues that impact on the Afrikan Cultural Community. In response to that demand it was apparent that a physical base is needed to meet the demands.
Hence The Garvey Village concept was born, it will be an important Asset and Legacy to the Afrikan /Caribbean Community. It will provide an ‘umbrella’ of services and resources to enhance personal development through health, education, employment, training and well-being interventions, and social and cultural activities.
The Garvey Village Social Enterprise is the brainchild of Auntie Jean, The Garvey Village is a registered organisation established in 2017 (Company number 11038361)
The Garvey Village is the modern day revolutionary Marcus Garvey ‘Black Print’ of Nation Building, Economic Unity, Self-Reliance and Collective Black Wealth, as a way of life for our generation and the next.
Garvey Village Social Enterprise aims to generate sustainable income that will create employment opportunities; and provide economic empowerment for the Black, African diaspora community it serves.
The Garvey Village Social Enterprise exists to resource and enhances personal development, well-being, education, training and employment opportunities specifically for the Black, African diaspora community. The village will be a hub, the go to place for social and cultural activities.
The key objectives of the Garvey Village Social Enterprise are to generate sufficient income to be able to provide low cost and some free activities to benefit the Black, African diaspora community.
