Nagela's career is a study in intentional reinvention. An industrial engineer by training at Georgia Tech, where she was named National Student Body President of the Year, she went on to build products at Google and Netflix before pursuing a dual graduate degree at MIT Sloan and Harvard Kennedy School. That decision, which others advised her against, changed everything.
She joined the U.S. Digital Service and later served as a Senior Technology Advisor in the Biden-Harris White House, working on some of the country's most critical public infrastructure, including COVID-19 data systems and technology for asylum seekers. Now at College Board, she leads the strategy for how AI is adopted, governed, and implemented across an institution that shapes the lives of millions of students.
At the heart of everything she does is one conviction: the people most affected by a problem are closest to its solution, and they must be part of building it.
In this session, Nagela will share what it looks like to navigate across private industry, federal government, and mission-driven institutions, how to make intentional career decisions even when the advice points elsewhere, and what responsible AI actually means in practice.
