About this Event

Join us next Thursday for our next Mutual's Mending Club!This month we’ll be focusing on mending using Boro stitching.

Boro (or boromono) meaning 'rags' in Japanese, is a domestic craft started out of necessity in rural Japan sometime during the Edo period. It is historical upcycling at its finest!Boro is an extremely accessible mending technique for a novice mender!

The process involves using a simple running stitch to layer patches over a garment’s worn out parts.

We’ll bring all the supplies you’ll need, you bring your favourite pair of ripped up pants/tops/jackets/etc to work on. Boro works best on non-stretch fabrics like cotton or linen, and especially denim or canvas.

Join us at our Northcote store for an evening of pins and needles. Bring your projects along and we can advise on how to cross them off your to-do list. If you don’t have any mending but want to join in for some parallel play, bring whatever you're sewing/knitting/working on, we would love to see.

We will provide;

  • Sewing supplies
  • Sewing machines
  • Our collective knowledge
  • Tea and snacks

Please let us know what projects you have in mind so we can be sure to bring the correct supplies.

We hope to host Mutual's Mending Club once a month through the chillier weather, with themes such as: darning, creative mending, boro stitching and quilting basics.
