About this Event
The “Muse Makers,” composed of museum volunteers, will be hosting creative events on select Thursdays throughout the year. Our volunteer “Muse Makers” will be teaching a series of adult classes on the exploration of creativity with found materials. All adult classes will be taught by Wendy Rochman and Pati Frey.
Thursday, January 16th, 10am - 12pm: Creating Peace Posters
Come and create peace posters to spread peace, love and kindness. We will supply basic materials but feel free to bring anything you may like.
Thursday, March 13th, 10:15am - 12pm: Potato Print Tea Towels
Tea towels make great and useful DIY gifts. This fun and easy potato stamp tea towel project turns out beautifully and is a great project just in time for St. Patrick's Day.
Thursday, April 3rd, 10am - 12pm: Ikebana with Guest Instructor Eileen Kay
The practice of ikebana, or the path of flowers, is a beautiful practice and contemplative journey. It teaches us that everyone has the instinct and courage for artistic talent. Skill develops with curiosity, receptivity, guidance from a trained instructor, and practice. Learn some history and background, basic patterns of harmony and mindfulness in working with
branches, flowers, water, space, intuition, and elegance.
Thursday, May 8th, 10:30am - 12:30pm: Sustainable Felted Soap with Guest Instructor Kathy Partridge
Wool, Warmth, and Water: Create Your Own Colorful, Sustainable Felted Soap. Come learn to felt! This class is a real treat for our senses of touch, sight and smell. This class will provide a perfect introduction to felt making. Using only our hands and some splashes of hot water, we'll transform fluffs of wool into a wrapper for a bar of fragrant natural soap (please bring your own if sensitive ). All materials will be provided. Kathy will share examples of other felting techniques to inspire your further exploration of this ancient and timeless art. Note this class is for folks not allergic to wool, soap, or scent.
Thursday, June 5th, 10:00am - 12:00pm: Zendala Drawing
A Zendala is a hybrid of a Mandala circle & Zentangle art. Mandalas represent wholeness, as well as our relation to the universe. Zendalas are relaxing and easy to create; there is no right or wrong way to make them. The process of creating a Zendala is a form of meditation in itself and a means of self-reflection and stress reduction. In this Zendala class, you will work on a circle tile zentangle tile and create a mandala using Zentangle art. Several Zentangle patterns will be introduced as well as exploring the use of color.
Wendy Rochman has been creative her entire life, exploring a wide variety of media throughout her long career as artist and art teacher. Wendy earned early recognition for her artwork by inclusion in her first juried show in 1973 at the San Francisco Museum of Art. She then went on to participate and exhibit with the San Francisco Printmakers Workshop before moving to Washington State to pursue education in photography, specifically technical photography, in order to inform her own photography practice.
As an avid environmental advocate, Wendy evolved toward making, using and inventing new ways to explore paper as an earth-friendly, sustainable, and limitless medium, continually learning new techniques along the way.
Wendy’s formal art studies include an AA degree in photography from Belleview Community Collage, a BA in Art from New York University, and an M.Ed in Alternative Art Education From Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.
Pati Frey loves working with Fabric and textiles. She loves quilting and has a Bachelors of Science in Textiles from the University of Delaware. She also is certified in yoga and has trained in transcendental meditation and is a Reiki level 2. She is passionate about the arts. She is a Boulder Transplant from Lancaster Pennsylvania.
