Join author Rosemary J Brown in conversation with seven sumitteer Jo Bradshaw to discuss her latest book 'Moving Mountains : Intrepid Women Climbers and the Peaks Named in Their Honour'

Moving Mountains celebrates the extraordinary women who reached the pinnacles of exploration and are immortalised in mountains that bear their names.

It reveals for the first time a group of exceptionally daring women who, against all odds, achieved an honour long reserved for men and monarchs. Blazing trails across the globe and straight through the status quo, they defied altitude – and society – to reach the highest places on Earth. Navigating through a man’s world, they scaled not only surging rock and ice, but steep barriers of prejudice and doubt.

Their triumphs are etched on peaks in the Alps, Andes, Rockies, Karakoram, even the planet Pluto. Blending gripping adventure narrative with rich biographical portraiture, Moving Mountains introduces nine women who forged new paths, showing others the way.

From Sacagawea, who crossed America’s harshest mountains with a baby on her back during a historic expedition west, to Victorians like Meta Brevoort, who staked women’s place in alpine climbing; through to twentieth-century Everest pioneer Junko Tabei and todays' celebrated summiteer Samina Baig.

About the speakers

Rosemary J Brown is author of Following Nellie Bly: Her Record-Breaking Race Around the World, where she re-traced the trailblazing journalist’s epic 72-day global journey. A journalist, she is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), a Churchill Fellow and a member of The Alpine Club. She lectures at RGS, Globetrotters Club and literary festivals. Her interest in trekking has led her to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as mountains in India, Nepal, Europe and America.

Jo Bradshaw is an expedition leader, keynote speaker, outdoor instructor and leadership coach. Once a self-confessed serial “no-sayer”, comfort-lover and height-hater, Jo transformed her life in her late 30s by saying yes more often. That shift took her to the highest mountains on Earth, including Mount Everest and the Seven Summits. Jo created and led the expedition behind More Than A Mountain, an award-winning film honouring Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Everest. The film follows 15 women aged 29 –71, including Rosemary, as they climb Nepal’s Yala Peak, celebrating women hidden in history and redefining who gets to be seen as bold and brave.
