Movement as Medicine: A Celebration of National Indigenous People's Day
About this Event
Movement as Medicine: A Celebration of National Indigenous People's day led by the Matriarch Movement powered by lululemon
Here, together. is about presence—it invites us to show up, be in relationship, and honour Indigenous teachings, stories, and traditions.
But presence isn’t passive. It’s felt in movement, in gathering, in shared moments of culture and connection.
It’s community in motion.
Join Matriarch Movement- a non-profit, podcast and platform- dedicated to amplifying Indigenous voices, fostering intergenerational healing, and connecting communities through wellness and ancestral knowledge - for a powerful gathering in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day. Rooted in the values of kinship (wâhkôhtowin) and good relations (miyo-wîcêhtowin), this immersive experience invites participants to honor National Indigenous People's day through movement, culture, and intergenerational knowledge sharing.
Guests are asked to arrive between 10:00–10:30 a.m. We will begin the day with a Four Directions Yoga Flow led by the founder of Matriarch Movement and lululemon Global Ambassador, Shayla Stonechild. The first 100 guests will receive a complimentary yoga mat and water bottle, courtesy of lululemon.
Following the yoga practice, there will be a break from 11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m., during which guests are invited to explore Heritage Park and visit the Tipi Holders.
The afternoon will continue with a Pow Wow Dance Class led by Deanne Hupfield from 12:45–1:45 p.m. From 1:45–3:00 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to engage in sharing circles, connect with Tipi Holders, and learn through traditional teachings shared within and around the painted tipis.
Together, we gather on the land of Treaty 7 territory, Mohkinstsis, to celebrate our cultural identity, deepen connections to each other, and move toward miyo-pimâtisiwin— a good and balanced way of life.
