About this Event
When daylight fades and the golden edge of day slips below the horizon, the garden comes alive in an entirely different language.
Moonlight coaxes open flowers that never bloom in the sun, releasing perfumes that call to dark pollinators~moths, beetles, bats, and other creatures of the night.
Night gardens are built for scent, shadow beauty, and quiet enchantment. Join us to embrace your inner night owl, and fall in love with the world after sunset.
Herbalist Rissa Miller will explain the captivating world of nocturnal gardens and what makes night-adapted flora and fauna so extraordinary. Discover night-blooming flowers, silver-leaved botanicals that glow in lunar light, aromatic herbs that intensify after dusk, and lore surrounding plants connected to dreams and the witching hours.
Explore how evening gardens are used in cultures across the globe and why tending a nighttime space can be so rewarding. Rissa will trace the moon’s influence on growth cycles and discuss how to design a garden for nighttime blooms, also addressing nighttime harvests and how to work with rain or other elements.
Expect a blend of herbalism, folklore, and natural history that invites you to see gardens as luminous nocturnal companions who transform the moment the stars rise.
Please note, this is a lecture indoors at The 9 Collective. There will be no nature walk. The focus of this class will be night gardens, herbalism, and lore. While it is all ages friendly, it may be of greatest interest to guests with curiosity about those topics. The 9 Collective is ADA accessible and has a free parking lot. There are no refunds offered on tickets once purchased, per the policy of The 9 Collective.
