About this Event
Mission Europe explores the remarkable history of the women who served with the Special Operations Executive across occupied Europe. In the aftermath of the Nazi invasion, the SOE fanned the early sparks of resistance, recruiting women to operate as secret agents, couriers, and saboteurs—individuals whose work strengthened resistance networks and delivered vital support and supplies.
In this compelling talk, Dr Kate Vigurs — historian and author of Mission Europe — brings these stories to the forefront, tracing operations from the Netherlands and Belgium to Poland and Denmark. She also examines the experiences of Jewish agents recruited in Mandate Palestine for missions in Eastern Europe, revealing narratives of courage, trial and error, escape, and, in some cases, execution.
Mission Europe considers why women were recruited, assesses their contributions, and celebrates the ordinary women who undertook extraordinary tasks in the fight against occupation. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event.
