Experience the magic of Moominvalley at Ferens Art Gallery this summer as we welcome the acclaimed theatre company Get Lost and Found with their enchanting family show Mischief and Mystery in Moominvalley.Inspired by Tove Jansson’s much loved Moomin stories, this gentle, immersive production follows Moomintroll through a whole year in Moominvalley. From a mysterious winter morning and the long awaited return of Snufkin in spring, to sun soaked summer adventures and the wistful goodbyes of autumn, the tale captures all the charm and wonder of Jansson’s world.
Each chapter of the story invites the audience to join in the fun — from playful snowball fights to toasting marshmallows and even taking a pretend dip in the sea. Beloved characters including Moomintroll, Snufkin, Little My, and Thingummy & Bob appear through beautifully crafted 2D rod puppets and life size 3D puppets, accompanied by original music, songs, and atmospheric narration. Tove Jansson’s iconic illustrations are brought to life in a stunning pop up book set.
Developed in consultation with Sophia Jansson, Tove’s niece, the show celebrates the timeless themes at the heart of the Moomin tales — a love of nature, the strength of friendship, the ache of parting, and the joy of embracing difference.
