This session will focus on mind, body, emotional, and interpersonal connection. McKenzie will introduce session members to a piece of classical music which carries a theme of musically representing art. After discussing the piece, session members will be introduced to available art materials and given the prompt to create art based on what they hear in the music.
The musical piece that the session will be focusing on is approximately 30 minutes in length and will be played in its entirety. Session members will be guided to reflect their experience with the music through their art as they listen. This can include any emotions, physical sensations, or memories that are experienced in addition to the imagery that is experienced throughout the listening process. Once the musical piece is completed, session members will engage in a reflection of the experience.
During the reflection process, session members will never be asked to share more than they feel comfortable with. Creating and sharing art can be a tender subject for many people. Creating a space where individuals feel safe and comfortable is absolutely essential to this experience

Why isn’t the name of the music shared ahead of time?
We are focusing on being mindful and connected in the moment. If you know the music ahead of time, you may feel an urge to research or listen to the music before the session. This may influence your ability to be fully mindful during this experience.
What if I feel like I’m not very good at art?
Everyone has different artistic strengths and you will never be judged based on how your art looks! The focus of this session is not on what your art looks like but on the process and the experience as a whole.
What if I have a hard time experiencing imagery from the music?
That’s totally okay! If you are struggling to experience any visuals, you can just focus on what the music makes you feel. You can also use shapes and colors to represent your experience.
What if I feel nervous or uncomfortable sharing?
If this is the case, take a moment to reflect and remember that others are likely feeling the same way! If you are signing up for this session, it is more than likely because you are looking for connection and a mindful experience. Connection occurs during moments of vulnerability. Some of the most beautiful moments occur when you open yourself up to others. You may just find that others have had similar experiences when you choose to share!
