Beginning his baking career more than sixty years ago as an apprentice in Sydney, Australia, Mike Fleming has dedicated his life to baking, education, and professional training. His career has taken him across Australia, England, Scotland, China, Singapore, and Southeast Asia, where he has helped shape generations of bakers and contributed significantly to the development of bakery education throughout the region.

In 1993, Mike founded Singapore's Baking Industry Training Centre (BITC), establishing the country's first professional bakery training school. He later joined a leading Singapore ingredient technology company and co-founded the CerealTech School of Baking Technology, delivering diploma programmes and working closely with bakeries and multinational food companies across Asia.

In Baking in Asia, Mike shares the remarkable story of his professional journey through personal experiences, industry insights, and memorable encounters. More than a memoir, the book documents the evolution of bakery education and the baking industry across Asia over the past three decades.

Mike is also the author of Baking for Non-Bakers: Essential Knowledge and Techniques in a Practical Guide for Successful Baking, an accessible guide designed for home bakers and beginners. Covering baking fundamentals, ingredients, techniques, breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, as well as gluten-free, egg-free, and Keto baking, the book provides practical knowledge for anyone wishing to bake with confidence.
