Addictive Hobbies and Games MESBG Doubles
“42? That’s not bad for a pointy-eared elven prince-ling. I myself am sitting pretty on 43.” -Gimli
Welcome to the player package for the first MESBG Doubles tournament at Addictive Hobbies and Games. Due to the way army building works in MESBG, doubles work differently than they do for other games like Warhammer: Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40,000. We’ll be going over some of the principles for the tournament below along with the date and event structure.
A Doubles Army is made from a single army list split into two forces, each controlled by a different player. Each force must be built to the same points limit, so that each force has half of the overall points. The two forces may not share leftover points with their partner. Army lists are still subject to all of the usual rules associated with them in regards to army building.
The entire Doubles Army must be from a single army list, and may not contain models from a different army list. However, bow limit and throwing weapon limit is calculated for each force individually, not across the whole army- that way you cannot just put all of your bows or throwing weapons into the same force.
At the beginning of each game, before rolling for deployment zones, teams will need to determine which of them is the Primary Force and which is the Secondary Force. If one force has its General as a Hero with a higher heroic tier than the other force, then that force with the higher tiered hero becomes the Primary Force. If both forces have their general as a hero with the same heroic tier, then they will roll-off (re-rolling ties) with the force belonging to the player that scored highest becoming the Primary Force, and the other becoming the Secondary Force.
If an Army List states that a specific hero is always the army’s general, then whichever force the model is in will automatically be the Primary Force for each game- there is no need to roll.
If a team wishes to use an army list that requires all models be deployed as a single Warband (as an example, the Fellowship) then this will still be allowed. In this case, the players should split their army into two forces of as equal a number of points as possible as usual, with the side that includes the General automatically becoming the Primary Force. This must be done before the event starts and cannot be changed during the event.
The General of the Primary Force is considered to be the Leader of the army for the duration of the game. The Break Point is worked out across the entire army rather than each individual force. An army cannot contain duplicates of named characters.
The event will take place on Saturday June 6th. Dice will begin rolling at 10:30am. Armies will consist of 400pts per player- 800pts total. We expect to wrap up around 6pm. Games will last two and a half hours, with a half hour break after game one for lunch. Each team will play three games. Scenarios will be rolled for on the day of the event and will be pulled from the Matched Play guides doubles scenarios. Whoever wins the most games across the day will win the event, tie breakers being decided by victory points! Admission is $20 and covers venue and prizes.
Muster your armies, sound the horns of battle! The fate of Middle Earth will soon be decided!
