Medicine Wheel
About this Event
This November, our Chief Experience Officer, Suzanne Jewell, and Canadian Innu guide, Melanie Paul, are coming together to create a new retreat experience at Patch rooted in nature, reflection and connection.
A full day to slow down, reconnect and find your center in nature.
What happens when we step away from the noise long enough to really listen?
The forest has a way of showing us things we may not notice in the pace of everyday life. Seasons change. Trees adapt. Everything in nature is constantly teaching us something about balance, change and connection.
For this special day retreat, Suzanne Jewell and Mélanie Paul come together at Patch to create an experience rooted in nature, reflection and connection.
Suzanne will host the day, bringing Patch’s nature-based mindfulness approach into the experience, while Mélanie will share the Medicine Wheel as an inner compass for reflection and personal balance.
The Medicine Wheel invites us to look at the different dimensions of our lives, including the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, and notice where we may need more attention, care or balance.
Throughout the day, the 20-acre Sanctuary becomes part of the experience. We will slow down beneath the tree canopy, spend time in mindful observation and reflection and explore what nature might teach us when we give ourselves enough space to notice.
What You May Experience
The day will weave together nature-based mindfulness, the Medicine Wheel, guided time in nature, mindful observation, reflection, storytelling and meaningful connection.
Mélanie’s work brings together two complementary perspectives: Indigenous teachings inspired by nature and generations of observing the living world, alongside contemporary understanding of human development, emotional intelligence and human behavior. Her work is not about teaching Indigenous traditions, but about creating spaces where people can slow down, listen deeply and reconnect with themselves and nature.
That approach naturally meets Patch’s own mission of reconnecting Human Nature with Mother Nature. Together, Suzanne and Mélanie will hold space for a day of curiosity, presence and deeper connection with ourselves, one another and the living world.
Your Host: Suzanne Jewell
Suzanne Jewell, President of Patch of Heaven Sanctuary, will host the retreat and help guide participants through the day at Patch.
Suzanne’s work at the Sanctuary centers around creating experiences that bring people back into relationship with nature through mindfulness, meditation and intentional time on the land.
For this retreat, she will help weave Patch’s nature-based mindfulness practices together with the Medicine Wheel experience, allowing the forest itself to become part of the day’s teaching.
Guest Facilitator: Mélanie Paul
Mélanie Paul is an Innu guide, facilitator and international speaker from the community of Mashteuiatsh, Québec. For more than twenty years, she has guided individuals, teams and communities through experiences of reconnection with themselves, one another and the living world.
For Mélanie, nature is not simply the backdrop. Nature is the teacher. Her work incorporates mindful observation, guided walks, reflection and the Medicine Wheel as a framework for greater balance and awareness.

The Medicine Wheel as an Inner Compass
Rather than looking at wellness as just one thing, the Medicine Wheel invites us to consider the whole person:
Physical. Emotional. Mental. Spiritual.
Where are you feeling balanced?Where might you need more care? What are you ready to nurture? What might nature be asking you to notice?
You do not need to arrive with the answers.
This day is about giving yourself enough space to listen.
Spend Your Saturday Differently
Leave the usual routine behind and spend a full day beneath the trees.
Slow your pace. Breathe. Listen more closely. Share meaningful conversation. Give yourself room to reflect.
And perhaps leave seeing yourself, and the natural world around you, a little differently.
