About this Event
This event is free to attend, but registration is required.
As maternal mortality rates continue to rise across the United States, advocates are rallying to raise awareness and provide critical education on maternal health. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has designated January 23 as Maternal Health Awareness Day, also known as “1-2-3 for Maternal Health.”
Arkansas has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. To shed light on this health crisis, the Northwest Arkansas (AR) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, in partnership with Women in International Trade, will host an event featuring a screening of the film “Giving Birth in America: Arkansas”. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion where experts will explore ways to improve maternal healthcare for women in our community and beyond.
Film Viewing:
Join us as we collectively screen the short film and examine the experience of women during childbirth in Arkansas. This powerful film will serve as the foundation for our conversation about the current state of maternal health in our state.
Panel Discussion:
After the film, we will host a panel of healthcare professionals and community leaders who will explore the following key topics:
- Mental health and how healthcare providers can better support expectant and new mothers.
- Necessary societal changes in maternal care, including extended postpartum care, parental leave, and empowering patients to advocate for themselves before, during, and after pregnancy.
- The use of doulas and other support systems in improving maternal health outcomes.
- Additional important issues surrounding maternal health.
