GRAMMY Award winning guitarist Jason Vieaux is internationally recognized for his virtuosity and
expressive artistry. From New York’s Lincoln Center to Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw to the Seoul
Arts Center, Vieaux’s performances are celebrated as “virtuosic, flamboyant, dashing, and
sometimes ineffably lyrical” (New York Times), cementing his place “among the elite of today's
classical guitarists” (Gramophone).
A sought-after soloist, he has appeared with leading orchestras including The Cleveland Orchestra,
Toronto Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Nashville Symphony. He has
collaborated with preeminent conductors such as Giancarlo Guerrero, Jahja Ling, and David
Robertson. A frequent recitalist and chamber musician, he performs regularly on distinguished
series including San Francisco Performances, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center,
Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and the 92nd Street Y, New York, as well as festivals such as
Ravinia, Caramoor, Domaine-Forget, Music@Menlo, Round Top, and the Eastern Music Festival. His
international appearances include Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Seoul Arts Center, Shanghai
Concert Hall, Sala São Paulo, and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
An in-demand collaborator, Vieaux frequently performs with the Escher String Quartet, mezzo-
soprano Sasha Cooke, violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, harpist Yolanda Kondonassis, accordion and
bandoneon virtuoso Julien Labro, and saxophonist Timothy McAllister. He has premiered works by
Jeff Beal, Avner Dorman, Vivian Fung, Pierre Jalbert, Jonathan Leshnoff, David Ludwig, and Mark
Mancina, among others.
Vieaux’s extensive discography includes his GRAMMY Award winning album Play (Azica Records,
2014), which the Huffington Post called “part of the revitalized interest in the classical guitar.” His
performance was acclaimed by Gramophone as “eloquent and vibrant” in Bach Volume 2: Works
for Violin (Azica Records, 2022). He recorded Shining Night (Avie Records, 2022) with celebrated
violinist and frequent collaborator Anne Akiko Meyers, and he was featured in Pat Metheny’s album
Road to the Sun (Modern Records, 2021), which includes Metheny’s solo guitar composition “Four
Paths of Light,” written for and dedicated to Vieaux. Also a composer, Vieaux has recently recorded
an album of all original compositions for solo guitar, Gratitude, to be released in early 2026 by
Azica Records. His orchestral recordings include Jonathan Leshnoff’s Concerto for Guitar,
recorded with the Nashville Symphony, and Jeff Beal’s Six Sixteen, recorded with the Norrköping
Symphony.
Vieaux is on the faculty of Curtis Institute of Music, where he co-founded the guitar department in
2011, and Cleveland Institute of Music, where he has taught for over 25 years. His popular online
guitar school through ArtistWorks attracts students from around the world.
Vieaux performs on a guitar made by Gernot Wagner in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2013. He is
