About this Event
Art Therapy Mask-Making Workshop:
Exploring the Inner & Outer Self
Join us for a hands-on workshop where you will create your own personal mask through a guided, creative process. This experience invites you to slow down, work with your hands, and explore the relationship between your inner world and outward expression while connecting to the reflective and transformative nature of mask-making.
The workshop will take place:
Wednesday, May 6 from 5:00-7:00 PM
Through a gentle, guided, step-by-step process, participants will create a personal mask that reflects both their inner world and the way they present themselves outwardly. Using a variety of materials such as paper, natural elements, paints, and decorative objects, each person will be invited to explore identity, emotion, and self-expression in a safe and supportive space.
Mask-making has been used across cultures throughout history as a powerful form of storytelling, transformation, and healing. In this workshop, the mask becomes a tool for reflection, what we reveal, what we protect, and what we are discovering about ourselves.
Throughout the day, participants will be supported with art therapy–inspired prompts, guided reflection, and optional sharing. The process emphasizes curiosity over perfection, allowing space for personal insight, creativity, and meaningful connection.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a unique, handcrafted mask and a deeper awareness of their inner and outer selves.
No previous experience is required. This experience is not about perfection or artistic skill. It is about process, connection, and creating something meaningful with your own hands.
All supplies will be provided.
What to Expect
Opening and Intention Setting
We begin the evening by arriving together in a calm, supportive space. Through guided reflection, participants will be invited to consider themes of inner and outer self, what we show to the world, and what we hold within.
Creating the Mask Form
Participants will be guided through the process of building or shaping their mask base using accessible materials. This stage focuses on form, allowing you to begin expressing structure, emotion, and personal symbolism.
Exploring the Inner and Outer Self
Through art therapy–inspired prompts, you will begin to develop two aspects of your mask, the inner world and the outer presentation. Using paint, texture, and mixed materials, you’ll explore contrast, identity, and self-expression at your own pace.
Decoration and Personal Expression
You will have time to add detail and meaning to your mask using a variety of materials such as natural elements, colors, and decorative objects. This part of the process invites creativity, intuition, and personal storytelling.
Reflection and Optional Sharing
We close the evening with space for reflection. Participants are invited, but not required, to share their experience or the meaning behind their mask. This is a time to witness each other’s work and integrate the creative process.
By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a completed mask and a deeper connection to your inner and outer self.
