Making Sound Choices: Tips on Capturing and Delivering Great Sound
Dave Vespoint offers practical suggestions and tips for the decisions that shape your audio across every phase of production. Topics range from gear selection and on-set strategy to techniques that streamline the edit and post-production process. As George Lucas famously noted, "sound is 50 percent of the moviegoing experience"—and the quality of your audio has a direct and lasting impact on how audiences receive your work.

Dave Vespoint

Dave Vespoint brings close to four decades of experience in video production, with a specialization in field audio recording shaped by his earlier career as a touring musician. His field recordings have been broadcast on all major broadcast networks and most major cable networks. He has also served as adjunct faculty at Harford County Community College, teaching audio production for TV and film. In 2007, Vespoint joined the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory as a staff audio professional, where he has since recorded, edited, and mixed hundreds of videos, podcasts, and live broadcasts. He is currently producing mixes in Dolby Atmos.
