Make with the Maker - Learn to Draw like Brett Whitely

Learn to draw as expressive as Brett Whitely, a FREE class for YOUNG PEOPLE.

In a quick 3 hours, you will be feeling confident and capable to smash out an awesome charcoal drawing.

• An invigorating and fun drawing session, using a life model in a succession of quick poses. These energetic progressive drawing exercises stimulate the right side of your brain and help with self-confidence, expelling the fear ‘I can’t draw a stick figure!’

• Learn to observe proportion and a variety of freeing up techniques.

• Ending the session with a group discussion of your creations, as we encourage and admire our fantastical adventures and reflections of ourselves.

• We work from easels, boards and bull clips, onto cartridge and brown paper using willow charcoal and pastels onto A3 and/or A2 paper, or if preferred into a A3 visual diary.

Sharon Tudor Smith will guide you and be available to share her knowledge during the Making session for young people. The round table session gives you an opportunity to learn from Sharon about her process and her journey.

We are thrilled to launch this exciting new initiative designed specifically for young people who are interested in exploring creative practices and build their skills.

Held each month from September through to December 2024 the 'Expression Sessions' will host Professional artists offering their skills and classes for FREE to our community.

These Make with the Maker classes are funded by the Metal Manufacturers funds grant and brought to you by the Friends of the Manning Regional Art Gallery Taree for high school students and young people interested in Creative practices.

What to Expect:

• Build your skills: Learn new techniques, test out different mediums and explore a skill set you didn't know you had.
• Art Exploration: Immerse yourself in the Gallery’s latest exhibitions and be guided by professional artists.
• Meet the Maker: Utilise this opportunity to speak with professional creatives living the life of a practicsing artist and gain their insight into the industry.
• Everything is provided Please just bring yoursself
