Make a Kōauau: Power Tools 101, The ReCreators Green Space, Tuesday 17th Nov, 10am-1pm
Rata Taiwhanga leads E Tū Rākau Charitable Trust, a Māori-led kaupapa connecting people with māra kai, resource recovery, creativity and learning through practical mahi.
In this session with The ReCreators, Rata will share some kōrero about tikanga: how we approach the materials we use, the space we work in and the people we learn alongside. Participants will then make a kōauau, a Māori flute, taking time to explore the connection between the material, the making and its sound.
What to expect:
• Health and safety briefing at the start
• Step by step guidance using all tools
• Support throughout the build
Please wear covered shoes and fitted clothing. Some work may be outdoors so dress for the weather.
Participants must attend from the beginning for the safety briefing to take part.
