Madai Wine Dinner at SER Restaurant
An Evening Exploring the Heart of Bierzo, Castilla y León with Wine Maker Gonzalo Amigo
About this Event

Join us for a special evening dedicated to the wines of Madai, a small generational winery from Cacabelos in the renowned D.O. Bierzo region of northwestern Spain. Rooted in tradition and deeply connected to their land, Madai represents everything we admire about family-owned Spanish producers — authenticity, passion, and a true sense of place.

Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy a thoughtfully curated multi-course dinner paired with Madai’s expressive wines, showcasing the unique character of Bierzo’s old vineyards and native grapes. From elegant Mencías to fresh, mineral-driven whites, each wine tells the story of the region’s rich history, diverse terroir, and modern winemaking spirit.

This intimate dinner is designed to transport guests to the hills of Castilla y León through exceptional food, wine, and conversation — celebrating the craftsmanship and hospitality that define both Madai and SER.

About Madai: Madai personifies everything we admire about small, generational Spanish producers. Under the care of brothers Gonzalo and Daniel Amigo, this tiny estate of less than 7 acres still boasts vines from the original Mencía and Godello plots, now over one hundred years old. Walking the vineyards is the quintessential old world experience; the head-trained vines, on steep granite slopes, are dry-farmed and hand tended without sprays. Dedicated entirely to Mencía and Godello, the interspersed plantings yield a production of only a few thousand cases.

The Madai wines are a delight. Bierzo’s native red grape, Mencía, is wild and rustic – a clear deviation from Spain’s hotter-climate heavyweights. With Gamay-like aromatics and the spice and mineral of Cabernet Franc, it’s no wonder Mencía has recently emerged from decades of obscurity. Their Godellos spark the same sort of intellectual excitement any wine lover can appreciate; the best examples express the elegant neutrality of white Burgundy, mid-palate richness of Chenin Blanc, and the earthy, acid drive of Muscadet.

About Daniel Amigo: Daniel and Gonzalo Amigo returned to their roots to establish Bodegas Madai, recovering their grandparents' vineyards in El Bierzo, north-west Spain. Here, at the northernmost limit of Bierzo, their vineyards experience a continental-atlantic climate.

On steep, south-facing, slopes ideal for ripening grapes they discovered plots of old Godello and Mencia vines too - over 100 years old. They believe the established, gnarled vines on these old plots (around 4ha) have found a natural equilibrium, producing very low yields with no fertilisers and minimal intervention.

There are a variety of soil types in their vineyards - granite on the lower slopes and slate on the upper.
