‘Low Carb Melbourne 2024’ will take place at the iconic 75 Reid Street from Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st of September. The event will start at 12:00pm on Thursday, followed by welcome drinks at 6:00pm.

The program will continue at 8:00am on Friday until 5:00pm, followed by a Gala Dinner with a post-dinner presentation by Dr. David Unwin (via Zoom).

Re-commencing at 8:00am on Saturday, the conference will conclude at 5:00pm.

A delicious low carb lunch will be provided on Friday and Saturday as well as tea and coffee throughout the conference.

PRESENTER INFORMATION
Nina Teicholz – An investigative science journalist and author who advocates for reducing restrictions on naturally-occurring fats, including saturated fats, in the diet. Author of the best-selling book ‘Big Fat Surprise’.
Dr. Ben Bikman – A professor of pathophysiology and biomedical scientist whose research agenda focuses on the molecular mediators of obesity and its co-morbidities. Author of the book ‘Why We Get Sick’.
Dr. David Unwin – An award-winning general practitioner recognised for his innovative low-carb approach and being a strong advocate for lifestyle medicine. His pioneering work has been published in multiple journals and featured on television.
A/Prof. Ken Sikaris – Principal Fellow of the Department of Pathology at Melbourne University, Director of Clinical Support Services for Sonic Healthcare and Director of Chemical Pathology at Melbourne Pathology. His expertise is highly sought and he has presented extensively at national and international symposiums.
Dr. Paul Mason – An Australian trained medical doctor with a fellowship in sports medicine and degrees in physiotherapy and occupational health. He has an in-depth knowledge of nutritional science and regularly presents his knowledge in lectures challenging conventional wisdom and uses it in clinical practice where he treats the general public and elite athletes.
Dr. Anthony Chaffee – A practicing Neurosurgical registrar, former professional rugby player and long term adherent and advocate of the Carnivore diet.
Dr. Peter Brukner – A world-renowned sports medicine doctor who believes that dietary guidelines are responsible for the current epidemic of diabetes and obesity. He has authored a popular book on nutrition (A Fat Lot of Good), and is the founder of both the SugarByHalf campaign and Defeat Diabetes.
Dr James Muecke – An Opthamologist and former Australian of the Year 2020 who is a passionate low carb advocate with a focus on Type-2-Diabetes, the leading cause of blindness in adults.
Jayne Bullen – Chief Operating Officer of the Noakes Foundation and Managing Director of Nutrition Network. Jayne is a contributor/editor to the book ‘The Science of Therapeutic Carbohydrate Restriction in Human Health’.
Dr. Karen Dwyer – A Nephrologist and transplant physician with an interest in metabolic health, Dr. Dwyer is currently Clinical Director at Kidney Health Australia and Professor of Medicine at Deakin University.
Dr. Liz Fraser – A GP with a particular focus on nutritional medicine and helping patients with complex health problems. Dr. Fraser is the cofounder of Low Carb Canberra and is passionate about educating other doctors on the benefits of recommending low carb to their patients.
Dr. Ryan Lucas – A Paediatric registrar and Kawasaki Disease researcher. He completed his medical training in Sydney, and is currently undertaking a PhD on the epidemiology and management of Kawasaki Disease in Australia at The University of Sydney.
A/Prof. Nasim Salehi – An Associate Professor in Healthcare Management & Leadership at Edith Cowan University, with an adjunct position at Southern Cross University and a focus on preventative healthcare.
Dr. Sarah Zaman – A Cardiologist and widely published researcher based at Nepean Hospital in Sydney.
Dr. Sanjeev Balakrishnan – Obtained a Master of Medicine in Family Medicine from the National University of Singapore. Sanjeev is very passionate about management of obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome through low carbohydrate, high healthy fat diets.
Dr. Ravi Gornall – An experienced GP and functional medicine practitioner who follows ancestral and paleo-based principles in the treatment of her patients.
Dr. Louise Phillips – An Australian GP with a passion for medical education, doctors’ wellbeing and metabolic health. Lead educator and content director at lowcarbscripts.com
Claire McDonnell Liu – A Nutritionist experienced in delivering
food and wellbeing programmes for schools, government and businesses. Claire has a strong interest in family health, with a focus on tackling inequalities through delivery of resources that engage and empower.
Timothy Trudgen – A cross-cultural educator, consultant and co-founder of ‘Hope for Health’ (HFH), a program to support the Yolngu people of North East Arnhem Land who are trying to get control of their health and prevent chronic disease in their communities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
We are planning to Livestream this event which will help get the presentations out to a wider audience. Livestream also offers additional benefit for in person attendees who can re-watch the presentations at any time following the meeting at no additional cost. The talks will also be edited and released on the LCDU YouTube channel in the months following the event.
