About this Event
Across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, tales of shapeshifters slipped between superstition, survival, faith, and fear. Not merely monsters, they were warnings, protectors, scapegoats, and symbols of the wildness humans tried so hard to contain.
Join folklorist and storyteller Rissa Miller for a deep, chilling journey through the tangled history of the werewolf. We’ll explore medieval trial records, witchcraft testimonies, ancient myths, protective charms, and the cultural anxieties that turned ordinary people into legendary beasts. From the benevolent wolf-guardians to cursed wolf pelts, werewolves reveal far more about humanity than about wolves.
Guests will discover how the werewolf became tied to witchcraft and why certain nights were feared as wolf hours. We’ll trace the werewolf’s evolution from folk tale to modern pop-culture icon, exploring how each era reshaped the creature to reflect its deepest fears and desires.
Whether you’re a lover of folklore, a student of the occult, a horror fan, or simply intrigued by the boundary between human and beast, this program invites you to step into the shifting shadows where the werewolf still prowls. Expect history, mythology, dark tales, and surprising truths behind one of the world’s most enduring creatures.
