Professor Kris Warren from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University has worked in the field of wildlife, zoological and conservation medicine for over 20 years. Staff and students in the Conservation Medicine Program undertake research on the health of threatened wildlife species within ecological contexts, throughout Australia and internationally, in order to assist recovery efforts to conserve these species. Professor Warren was appointed as a Diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine in the Specialty of Wildlife Population Health in 2011, and as a Member of the Zoological Parks Authority Board for Perth Zoo in 2022.
The main presentation will be followed by a short focus talk from Nathan Beerkens on the kowari - a small but mighty carnivorous marsupial. He'll talk about community organisation Team Kowari, how they managed to get kowaris listed as Endangered and establish a National Recovery Team, as well as some of the wild population monitoring, tracking and translocation work that has happened.
We will also look at any specimens that have been brought along.
After this you are welcome to join us for tea/coffee and conversation.
All are welcome to attend, with a donation of $3 for Club members or $5 for non-members giving you a chance to win the door prize (EFTPOS available).
Doors open at 7.10pm and the meeting begins at 7.30pm at the Hew Roberts Lecture Theatre, University of Western Australia.
Parking is free and available in car parks near the Gordon St or Clifton St entrances to the campus.
