About this Event

Join us to celebrate the launch of Listening In: How Interoception Can Improve Your Mental and Emotional Health by Carrie DeJong, MC, RCC.

Most of us were taught about five senses, but there is another sensory system that quietly shapes our everyday lives. Interoception is our ability to notice and make sense of signals from inside the body—signals connected to hunger and fullness, pain, emotion, stress, safety, connection, and much more.

In Listening In, Carrie draws on more than two decades of clinical experience and a growing body of research to explore how this often-overlooked sense influences our mental and emotional health—and how learning to listen to the body differently can help us understand ourselves with greater clarity and compassion.

The evening will begin informally with dessert, coffee and tea, conversation, and an opportunity to explore interoception for yourself. Interactive displays and simple experiments will invite you to notice some of the ways your brain and body communicate—no previous knowledge of interoception required.

We’ll then gather for a reading from Listening In and a conversation with Carrie about the ideas behind the book, followed by a book signing and time to connect.

Everyone is welcome. Whether you know Carrie personally, have followed her professional work, work in mental health or a related field, or are simply curious about interoception and the book, we’d love to have you join us.

Admission is complimentary. Registration is required.
