Lino Printing at RYE Bakery & Pizzeria

Join us for a relaxed, beginner friendly morning of lino printing at The Rye Bakery & Pizzeria, right by Frome train station.

Whether you've never picked up a carving tool before or you're simply looking for a chance to slow down, try something new and spend a creative morning with like-minded people, this workshop is designed to be welcoming, social and accessible to everyone.

Led by Maisie Keller, a Wiltshire based printmaker and illustrator with a BA (Hons) in Illustration and an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking. This is an opportunity to learn the foundations of traditional relief printmaking from a practising artist. Maisie’s work has been exhibited across Frome, London, Birmingham and internationally in Estonia, and she brings both professional experience and a relaxed, supportive teaching approach to her workshops.

Throughout the session you will learn how to carve and print your own linocut using traditional tools, oil-based inks and a tabletop press. You are welcome to bring your own sketches, photographs or ideas to work from, but a curated selection of designs and reference images will also be available if you’d prefer to simply arrive and create.

By the end of the workshop, you will have produced your own small series of hand-printed artworks and gained the confidence to continue exploring lino printing at home.

During the workshop you will learn:

• How to plan a design suitable for linocut
• Techniques for transferring an image onto your lino block
• Safe and effective carving methods
• The fundamentals of relief printing with oil-based inks
• How to ink and print using a tabletop press

What's included:

• All lino, paper, inks, tools and use of the press
• A relaxed introduction to a traditional printmaking technique
• Individual guidance in a small group setting (maximum 8 participants)
• Your own hand-printed artworks to take home

An optional materials pack containing a set of lino tools and a pot of printing ink is available to purchase with your ticket or on the day, allowing you to continue your printmaking journey at home.

A little extra:

This workshop is hosted in the lovely surroundings of The Rye Bakery & Pizzeria. Their coffee, pastries and lunch menu will be available throughout the class, so come early for a coffee, enjoy a pastry while you print, or stay afterwards for lunch.
