About this Event

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE ATTENDED LEVEL 1: BASIC DOMESTIC ABUSE AWARENESS TRAINING BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR LEVEL 2.

This full-day training provides frontline staff with a comprehensive understanding of domestic abuse, its risks, and the professional response required to safeguard victims. The session combines enhanced awareness of abuse, trauma, and complex needs with advanced skills in risk assessment and multi-agency safeguarding.

Participants will explore different types of abuse, the cycle of abuse, the impact on victims—including children and families—and the wider family and community context. The training also covers intersectionality, mental health, trauma-informed practice, and perpetrator behaviour, alongside practical application of risk assessment tools such as DASH and YP DASH, and engagement with multi-agency structures including MASH, MARAC, and DVDS.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise and understand different types of domestic abuse with a deeper focus than basic awareness.
  • Understand the cycle of abuse and its impact on victims, including children and families.
  • Gain knowledge of relevant legislation and offences, including the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
  • Recognise how domestic abuse affects victims across all protected characteristic groups, including younger and older victims.
  • Understand basic perpetrator behaviour and dynamics of coercive control.
  • Explore the role of complex needs and respond effectively to victims with multiple needs.
  • Understand the impact of trauma and mental health issues, including risks of suicide, and apply trauma-informed practice.
  • Identify risk factors and confidently use risk assessment tools such as DASH and YP DASH.
  • Recognise children as victims in their own right and safeguard appropriately.
  • Apply professional judgement to assess risk, make onward referrals, and work within Gloucestershire’s multi-agency structures.
  • Learn from Domestic Homicide and Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews to strengthen practice.
  • Know local referral pathways and their professional role in identifying and responding to domestic abuse.

Who Should Attend
This training is designed for:

  • Frontline staff who may come into contact with victims of domestic abuse and want both enhanced awareness and advanced risk management skills.
  • Professionals in health, housing, social care, education, justice, and community services involved in safeguarding, case management, or multi-agency work.

Why This Training Matters
Professionals play a vital role in identifying domestic abuse, assessing risk, and safeguarding victims. This full-day session equips you with the knowledge and confidence to recognise abuse in all contexts, respond safely and trauma-informed, and work effectively within Gloucestershire’s Coordinated Community Response to protect victims and families.
