30th March 2026 - "Short Films Recruiting Cast+Crew, Networking, Pitching and more"
About this Event
Let's Make Films. It’s a simple idea. Gather a bunch of like-minds and create a network of people who want to
1. Make film.
2. Learn how to make better films.
This event will be a productive gathering to; network, crew, and discuss:
i. What has everyone been up to?
ii. What films are on the cards, what film/s need what help, what crew is available, etc, etc...
iii. To let you know a few plans for the future... e.g. networking, education, target festivals, socials, filming. Our plans to incubate film.
We will also build upon the recent Script Development Table Read Event. As part of our expanding remit, Let's Make Films will be helping to develop and facilitate the following three short films into production and for a festival run this year:
1. Apocalypse Down
Dark comedy / satire
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have a 2,000-year legacy of ending the world — but lately, the end seems to be happening without them. As modern catastrophes unfold faster than ever, the Horsemen arrive late to discover that someone else is already doing their job.
2. Original Sin
Anthology / dark fantasy
The Devil adapts to the digital age, using a Sin Tracker app to navigate seven interconnected vignettes exploring the cardinal sins. As technology captures and amplifies human behaviour, each sinner faces a fitting reckoning in this darkly playful look at morality in the modern world.
3. Breathe
Drama
A reclusive young man, isolated by guilt over his brother’s death, is forced to confront his trauma when an unyielding social worker enters his life. An intimate, character-driven story about grief, resistance and the possibility of recovery.
Each film will have a pitching timeslot, with Original Sin and Breathe actively recruiting for cast members and crewing positions. Apocalypse Down is still in the writing room.
NOTE: This event is not specifically about these three films, but they are the projects Let's Make Films will be helping to support, in order to submit to festivals later in the year.
---------------------------------------
The idea with this event is to get everyone in a room chatting and and hearing what’s coming up next. It’s about sparking those creative conversations that turn ideas into action. After all, you don’t make films by sending emails — you make them by meeting people!
We’ve worked hard to keep things accessible. While the event was intended to be free, small costs like Eventbrite fees and insurance mean tickets are just £2.50 (plus Eventbrite’s bit). Hopefully, that keeps it easy for everyone to join.
It is a paid bar but what you drink is your own choice. Ticketing is monitored with names provided as normal to allow us and the venue to monitor numbers in the upstairs balcony bar area. Please let us know if you book but then can't make it as spaces may be in demand.
And finally, a big bravo to the BFI Riverfront Bar for making this event setup such a breeze — we couldn’t ask for a better venue! 🎬✨

The Let's Make Films Audience
The audience that attends Let's Make Films is very varied. There are some who are well accustomed to the large stage etiquette on multi-million £$ shoots, others that are self taught shooting PDs with 20 years experince of "just getting it done in the middle of nowhere for next to nothing with no crew". There's TikToking YouTubers that have to feed the social media monster demand for constant content. We have students not knowing where to specialise yet, and colourists and prop makers who know more secrets of their trade than a spy master knows secret codes. But one thing is very sure, all of them will benefit from knowing a little more about each other and how they work.
