LENS ON GAZA: The Photography of Rizek Abdel Jawad

Join us on Wednesday, August 5 at Gallery TPW in Toronto for an exhibit of the work of Gaza photojournalist Rizek Abdel Jawad, who has been documenting Israel's genocide in Gaza for the last three years in intimate, human ways. This is a free event; prints and framed photography will be available for sale with all proceeds going to Abdel Jawad. Pay-what-you-can donations to Canadian Journalists for Justice in Palestine are encouraged.

Rizek Abdel Jawad's photographs linger in the space between devastation and tenderness. He traces the quiet gestures, fleeting intimacies, and enduring presence of the Palestinian people, who refuse to disappear. These images ask us to look beyond the spectacle of destruction and toward the lives that continue to unfold within it. To photograph in Gaza is to bear witness against erasure. Abdel Jawad's work transforms the camera into an instrument of memory, preserving not only loss, but love, dignity, and the stubborn insistence of life. This exhibition offers these photographs as acts of remembrance and resistance, inviting us to encounter Gaza not as an abstraction, but as a place of lives that continue to demand justice, visibility, and care. More than records of events, these images reveal the humanity, complexity, and strength of the people of Gaza.

This event is presented by Canadian Journalists for Justice in Palestine, Canadian Independent Media Fund, Oxfam Canada, and On The Line Media, and curated by Darlene Huynh. Canadian Journalists for Justice in Palestine is a national collective of journalists brought together by a shared concern for Israel's ongoing M**der of journalists in Palestine, and the failures of Canadian media to report fairly, accurately, and with urgency on this grave abuse of press freedoms.
