About this Event

In the course of research for her newly-published book, The Arab Hall - Frederic Leighton: Traveller and Collector, Melanie discovered the original locations of some of the tiles in Leighton House's Arab Hall. In this talk she will tell the story of these tiles, revealing new insights into the creation of one of London’s most iconic interiors.

The event will begin with an introductory talk at Kensington Central Library, followed by a walk to Leighton House, where attendees can explore the exhibition themselves.

14:00 – Talk by curator Dr Melanie Gibson at Kensington Central Library Lecture Theatre

The 'Arab Hall'

Built as an extension to the house, the Arab Hall is for many the centre piece of this unique artist home. The design reflects Leighton’s personal fascination with the Middle East which he often visited on his travels, and he collected and purchased many of the tiles himself on his trips to Turkey, Egypt and Syria.
