Join crime historian Adam Wood this September for a chilling evening of local true crime, as he uncovers some of the darkest and most shocking stories from Leicester’s Victorian past.
Set within the atmospheric surroundings of our Medieval Hall, this fascinating talk explores real-life crimes that once rocked the city and its communities.
Among the cases featured are the man fatally stabbed following a dispute with five Italian organ grinders; a quarrel between two quarrymen that ended with a pickaxe lodged in one victim’s skull; and the man who brought a bitter feud with his father to a brutal end with a hammer blow.
You'll also hear the tragic story of a young temperance advocate who warned others of the dangers of drink—before he himself succumbed to alcohol-fuelled violence, nearly decapitating his sweetheart and abandoning her body in a ditch.
Dark, gripping and meticulously researched, this is an evening of Leicester history at its most compelling.
