Mills is internationally recognized as a passionate, multifaceted and energetic conductor, and a five-time winner of the Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Award. He has led performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, and São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, among many others. Musical America named him its "New Artist of the Month" for March 2022, praising his eagerness to explore highly contrasting musical styles and approaches.
Beyond the podium, Mills is known for bringing classical music to new audiences — notably through Vibe Sinfônica, a project he launched in 2018 with nightlife producer The Week Group in São Paulo that has introduced classical repertoire to thousands of nightlife-scene listeners. He trained at the Peabody Institute under Gustav Meier and Marin Alsop and graduated cum laude from Whitman College.
