About this Event
Trace the history of British feminism’s struggles & alliances with the law & its enforcers with writer & editor Leah Cowan as she heads to Voce Books to introduce her brand-new Verso book, Why Would Feminists Trust the Police?
In this delicate evening of discussion, Leah will open up on a subject that continues to unite & untie feminist struggle, helping to shine a light on the sometimes complicit relationship between feminists & those who are responsible for policing & law enforcement. Drawing upon the stories of Black British feminist movements Leah will also show that there are existing, creative alternatives offered by those that have long been aware that they are not necessarily safe in the hands of the law that should protect them.
Leah Cowan is a writer & editor. She is the former Politics Editor at gal-dem, an online magazine & media platform run by women & non-binary people of colour. Leah also works at Project 17, an advice centre for migrant families who have No Recourse to Public Funds & are facing homelessness & destitution. Her first book, ‘Border Nation’, breaking down the borders of migration, was published in 2021.
This is one of our ‘Futures’ events, dedicated to non-fiction books that help us to rewire our consciousness & zero in on the ideas that help shape the architecture of our collective futures.
Tickets for the event are free, but we kindly ask that you place a reservation here on our Eventbrite page.
