Het Mexicaanse theatercollectief Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol staat erom bekend de grens tussen realiteit en verbeelding te bevragen. Toen ze een nieuw project over Centraal-Amerika wilden maken, ontmoetten ze A., een Nicaraguaanse vrouw die was gevlucht voor de dictatuur van Daniel Ortega en Rosario Murillo. A. deed hen een bijzonder verzoek: omdat ze zelf de grens niet kon oversteken, vroeg ze de artiesten dat in haar plaats te doen en onder een valse identiteit enkele taken voor haar uit te voeren. Wat begon als een artistieke expeditie ontwikkelde zich tot politieke actie. Fictie werd een instrument om in te grijpen in de werkelijkheid. Via interviews en gereconstrueerde scènes wordt de actie nu heropgevoerd. Waar Mexico zich vaak gedwongen richt op het noorden, kiest Lagartijas ervoor om naar buurlanden in het zuiden te kijken, die de gevolgen dragen van militaire interventies, de geopolitiek rond het Panamakanaal, migratiestromen en speculatieve Bitcoin-ondernemingen. In Centroamérica komt theater in actie voor een vrouw en onthult daarmee zowel zijn beperkingen als mogelijkheden. Hoewel theater de geschiedenis niet kan herstellen, kan het er misschien wel in binnendringen en grenzen tussen feit en fictie vervagen om een verenigd continent te verbeelden, voorbij verdeelde naties en verantwoordelijkheden.

Depuis des années, le collectif de théâtre mexicain Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol explore la frontière entre réel et imaginaire.
En entamant un projet sur l'Amérique centrale, le groupe a croisé le chemin de A., une exilée nicaraguayenne ayant fui la dictature de Daniel Ortega et Rosario Murillo. De leurs échanges est née une requête singulière : ne pouvant elle-même franchir la frontière, A. a demandé aux artistes de pénétrer au Nicaragua sous une identité fictive pour agir en son nom. Ce qui était au départ une délégation artistique est devenu un acte politique. La fiction a débordé du théâtre pour agir sur le réel, et retrouve aujourd’hui la scène à travers des reconstitutions et des entretiens. Alors que le Mexique est souvent poussé à regarder vers le Nord, le collectif tourne ici son regard vers le Sud, vers ces pays voisins marqués par les interventions militaires, la géopolitique du canal de Panama, l'exploitation des flux migratoires et la spéculation actuelle du Bitcoin. Avec Centroamérica, le théâtre offre une capacité d’action à une femme qui ne peut plus retourner dans son pays, exposant à la fois ses propres limites et son potentiel. À défaut de réparer l'Histoire, le théâtre s'y invite, brouillant les frontières entre faits et fiction pour esquisser les contours d'un continent uni, au-delà des nations et des responsabilités divisées.

For years, Mexican theatre collective Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol has explored the frontier between reality and invention.
As they began new work on the Central American region, they met A., a Nicaraguan woman who fled the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. During their conversations, A. made an extraordinary request. Since she could not cross the border, she wanted the artists to re-enter Nicaragua using a fictional identity and carry out tasks in her name. What began as an artistic delegation evolved into political action, using fiction as a tool outside the theatre, now restaged through interviews and reconstructed scenes. While Mexico is often compelled to look North, Lagartijas turns the gaze South, to neighbouring countries shaped by military intervention, the geopolitics of the Panama Canal, exploited mechanisms of migration, and the speculative Bitcoin ventures of today. In Centroamérica, theatre takes action for a woman who cannot return, revealing both its limits and its possibilities. Unable to repair history, perhaps theatre can enter it, blurring the boundary between fact, fiction, and the frontiers of a united continent, beyond divided nations and responsibilities.
