LAFF 2026 Photobook Talk with Alicia Vera: Va a Llover Toda La Noche
About this Event
When her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2018, Alicia Vera was confronted with the slow and painful experience of losing someone who remains physically present yet gradually slips away through memory loss and cognitive decline. Va a Llover Toda La Noche (It's Going to Rain All Night) is an exploration of that experience, weaving together images from her mother's archive, personal photographs, notes, text messages, and ephemera gathered from her mother's room.
Moving between past and present, the project reflects on the emotional complexities of grief, memory, and care, while examining the evolving relationship between mother and daughter in the face of illness.
