Kyotographie exhibition gallery tour led by Simon Wright
About this Event
Explore through a gallery tour led by Simon Wright, Director of Programming at Japan House London.
The tour looks closely at the themes connecting Kawada Kikuji and Iwane Ai across generations and focuses on some of the key works on display. This includes Kawada's 1965 series Chizu (The Map) and Iwane's award-winning Kipuka, which traces Japanese immigrant communities in Hawaii.
The tour also explains how the exhibition came together through close collaboration with the co-founders and co-directors of Kyotographie International Photography Festival and explores the thinking behind the bold spatial design that transforms the Gallery space at Japan House.
The tour begins in the lobby in front of the Gallery on the Lower Ground Floor. Questions are encouraged and visitors are welcome to continue exploring the exhibition at their own pace afterwards.
Please note: the exhibition includes areas of low lighting and fast-moving slide projections. Some photographs refer to war, natural disasters, and death.
Japan House London’s exhibition is on display in the Gallery from 3 June until 18 October 2026.
Please note that filming and/or photography may take place at this event. Photos and footage of the event may then be used to promote Japan House London, helping more people to discover what we offer. If you have any concerns, please contact us online or contact a member of the team on site.
