IOE DEdPsy Bedford Way Seminar 2026
About this Event
Join us for a Bedford Way Seminar organised by the IOE DEdPsy programme to explore how our professional assumptions, language and models of practice can unintentionally individualise systemic and social harm, and how we might begin to rebalance this through more relational, community‑linked and preventative ways of working.
The session would draw on:
- reflections on identity, positionality and power in EP practice
- the limits of casework‑only approaches (necessary but insufficient)
- principles from community psychology, decolonising perspectives and relational practice
- practical examples from emerging community‑linked models of EP work, including co‑production with families, schools and grassroots organisations
The session is delivered by Dr Jawad Shah. Jawad is a Principal Community Educational Psychology, university lecturer and community advocate with experience across education and community settings in the UK and internationally. His work focuses on relational, community-centred, and culturally responsive approaches to Educational Psychology, with particular interests in equity and systemic change. He is especially interested in how Educational Psychologists can refine their practice as experts in the educational ecosystem, to address social and systemic inequalities.
This event is particularly relevant for Educational Psychologists, trainees, tutors, and others interested in socially just and community-oriented approaches to practice.
