The KY INBRE Electron Microscopy and Image Analysis Workshop for Biological Samples is a 4-day workshop discussing the principles and applications of electron microscopy for biological samples with hands on experience. We will cover sample preparation, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), image analysis techniques, and applications for AI.
Location: University of Louisville
- Lecture: Belknap Academic Building
- SEM: Shumaker Research Building
- TEM: Medical & Dental Research Building
Maximum number of Participants: 12
Coffee, drinks and lunch will be provided.
Application Criteria:
- Applicants that wish to participate must complete application by June 15, 2026. Accepted applicants will be notified of acceptance by July 1, 2026.
- Applicants must be an undergraduate, graduate student, postdoctoral fellow or research staff in a Kentucky institution of higher learning.
- Applicants must be over the age of 18.
- Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation. Parking fees will not be reimbursed by the workshop.
- Applicants must be able to bring a laptop with a keyboard and mouse (no tablets or desktops) and install a specified list of software prior to the workshop. The list of software to be installed will be made available upon acceptance into the workshop.
Program:
- Day 1: Principles of EM, EM Applications, Load software needed for image analysis (Jasmin Beharic, David Alston)
- Day 2: SEM Sample Prep + SEM Training + Imaging (Jasmin Beharic)
- Day 3: Biological TEM Sample Prep + Biological TEM Training + Imaging (Julia Aebersold)
- Day 4: Imaging Analysis (David Alston)
