About this Event
In Japanese tea tradition, October is known as Nagori, the “lingering month”—a peaceful time for reflection before the tearoom shifts from the summer brazier (furo) to the sunken hearth (ro). While kintsugi-repaired ceramics may be used year-round, they are especially cherished during this season, embodying the spirit of wabi-sabi: finding beauty in imperfection and appreciating the passage of time.
Date: Sunday, October 12
Time: 1 PM (75 minutes)
Venue:
For this special program, we are honored to welcome kintsugi artist, makomako, who will share insights into the philosophy of kintsugi, its intricate process, and the skill needed to restore a piece more beautifully than before. Each repaired ceramic bears the mark of care and affection, and during this event, you will have the rare chance to enjoy matcha served in these treasured bowls.
This program unfolds in two parts:
- Lecture & Demonstration – Gain insights into the history, philosophy, and delicate techniques of kintsugi directly from the artist.
- Matcha & Seasonal Sweets – Experience matcha served in kintsugi-repaired tea bowls, paired with Japanese seasonal confections. In this moment, the philosophy of imperfection is not only explained but also lived—held in your hands, tasted, and shared.
