Kid's Natural Ink & Paint Making Workshop
About this Event
Dates: Saturday 26 September or Saturday 3 October
Time: 10:30am–12:00pm
Age: 5–12 years
Location: Festina Lente Gardens
A fun, hands-on workshop inviting children to connect with their creativity, the garden and the beautiful colours found in the natural world. Using seasonal vegetables, flowers, leaves and other plant materials, children will become colour makers—experimenting with plants to create their own natural inks, paints and pigments.
Along the way, we’ll discover how people have traditionally made colour from the natural resources around them and explore some of the stories, qualities, and culinary and medicinal uses of the plants and vegetables we work with.
Children will have plenty of opportunity to experiment, mix, paint and play with colour, while developing their curiosity and awareness of the natural world around them.
Working with natural colour encourages observation, experimentation and creativity. Through the process, art becomes a bridge between nature, history and creative expression. No previous art experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment! All materials are provided.
