Whether you joined us for our first Rhythm Experience, discovered Katumba at Africa Oyé, or have always wondered what it feels like to be part of a carnival band, this is your invitation to step into the rhythm.
Inspired by the energy of summer festivals and taking place the weekend before Liverpool Pride, our Summer Carnival Edition celebrates community, self-expression and the joy of making music together.
This isn't just a class.
It's a chance to switch off, let go, connect with others and experience the uplifting power of rhythm, movement and Afro-Brazilian carnival.

If you joined us in May, welcome back!
While the spirit remains the same, this isn't a repeat of our first Rhythm Experience. Expect fresh rhythms, new activities, new musical challenges and an even bigger collective carnival journey.

Until then, our Rhythm Experiences are the perfect introduction to Katumba, giving you the chance to experience our unique approach, meet the community and discover whether you'd like to continue your rhythm journey with us.

TAKING PART
👉🏾 Led by our Co-Founders, Brazilian Afro-Indigenous Movement Director Juliana Pinetree Landim and Musical Director Ritchie Tunstall, alongside experienced Katumba members, creating an accessible, welcoming experience for everyBODY.
👉🏾 Please arrive from 1:30pm. The session begins promptly at 2:00pm.
👉🏾 All drums, sticks and hearing protection are provided.
👉🏾 Wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can move in, and bring a bottle of water.
👉🏾 If you have an injury, access requirement or anything you'd like us to know before the session, please get in touch so we can support you.

Are there age requirements?
This event is for ages 18+, 16 y.o accompanied by an adult
Do I need any experience?
Not at all, this is completely beginner-friendly. Just come as you are.
Do I need to bring anything?
We’ll provide everything you need (drums, sticks, hearing protection, etc.).
Please bring water (you can refill on-site)
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing and shoes you can move in.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely, many people do. It’s a welcoming, inclusive space.
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the venue is fully wheelchair accessible, including toilets.
Is there parking?
Yes, our building John Archer Hall has on-site parking spaces, bike locks, and additional street parking nearby.
Please be mindful not to block neighbours’ driveways.
How do I get there?
We’re close to the city centre and well connected by public transport (see map above).
If using Google Maps or sat nav, please enter the full address, as the postcode alone can take you to the wrong end of the street.
Do I need to bring a printed ticket?
No, digital tickets are absolutely fine.
Can I update my booking details?
Just email us and we’ll sort it for you.
Can someone else use my ticket?
Yes, that’s absolutely fine.
Can’t make this one but interested in joining Katumba?
No problem, you don’t need to attend this event to join.
