About this Event

Register now for our final meeting of the season on Thursday, June 18th to hear and discuss the latest fascinating findings from the Pew Charitable Trusts annual rich and varied data compendium about Philadelphia compared to other U.S. cities. Pew's Philadelphia research and policy director, Katie Martin, will review and discuss the main findings of Pew's 2026 State of the City report.

Among those findings in its 2026 report, Pew found that Philadelphia has made progress in the recent years on many of its most challenging issues, including reducing homicides and shootings, overdose deaths, and the poverty rate. But there are also troubling signs, including stagnating educational attainment, median income, and population. These troubling metrics have persisted or returned since the COVID-19 outbreak after a period of improvement before the pandemic.

The State of the City is a yearly report by the Philadelphia Research and Policy Initiative, you can view at www.pewtrusts.org/stateofthecity with copies available at our meeting.

Before joining Pew, Katie served as Deputy Policy Director in the office of Mayor Michael Nutter. She holds bachelor’s degrees from Boston University in philosophy and political science, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
