Anna calls this open mic, Kaleidoscope, as with each turn of a kaleidoscope there's a change of perspective, light, view and meaning. There will be a mixture of every genre, style, form, perspective and content from fiction to memoir to poetry, unpolished to polished, unpublished to published. Writers of all steps along the writing path are welcome! And if you just want to come listen, that's fabulous too—this evening is for anyone who enjoys gathering in community around story, where sharing and hearing one another shapes the pulse we carry forward.
October optional topic : hauntings: think unsettling visions that linger even after waking, a voice you still hear, memories that still disturb, smells or sounds that transport you, recurring dreams, curses, superstitions, ghosts, benevolent spirits, malevolent spirits, charged objects, a place you avoid, etc.
Guest Speaker: Judy Borenin
Bio: Judy was adopted at birth. She doesn’t remember her adoptive mother as she died when Judy was four. From then until she was in Junior High School she was dropped into a string of unfamiliar families, including a stretch in an Australian convent where she began writing poetry when she was 10. Her absent father tried and failed to rehabilitate her to a life at his tyrannical command.
She gave birth to two boys, married and divorced their father three times, but hung on for dear life to her sons.
She worked in bookstores for most of her life which is why she now lives in poverty, not regretting it for she continued to write poetry surrounded by books.
Judy has been published in The Raven Chronicles Last Call, The Floating Bridge Review, Theatre Of The Mind, Ethel Zine.
Poetica Review, The Subjectiv Journal, Synchronized Chaos, The Night Heron Barks, The Lothlorien Poetry Journal, Rough Cut Press, The Nelligan Review and The Raven's Perch among others. Her chapbook, The Evidence and The Evermore, was published after her youngest son died in 2016 at the age of 32.
