Jennifer Kim is an acclaimed American classical guitarist known for her stunning virtuosity, refined technique, and deeply sensitive musicality. Praised by legendary guitarist Pepe Romero as a “wonderful musician,” Jennifer has established herself as one of the most compelling artists of her generation in the classical guitar world.
Jennifer holds both a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in Guitar Performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she studied under world-renowned maestro Manuel Barrueco. Her artistry and technical command have earned her top honors at major international competitions.
Among her many achievements, Jennifer is the youngest-ever winner of the Open Division at the Indiana International Guitar Competition, claiming first prize at just 17 years old. She is also the Grand Prize Winner of the 25th Annual Spotlight Awards at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, a recipient of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award through NPR’s From the Top, and the youngest competitor to place at the Christopher Parkening International Young Guitarist Competition, earning third prize at age 13.
As a soloist, Jennifer has performed Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the Mill Valley Philharmonic, and has appeared at leading venues including the Kennedy Center and Sarasota Opera House. Her debut commercial recording, Seventeen, features technically demanding repertoire such as William Walton’s Five Bagatelles.
Jennifer began her classical guitar studies at age eight and a half with her father, and later studied with Jack Sanders and William Kanengiser. Her repertoire is especially noted for its focus on challenging solo works by composers such as Agustín Barrios Mangoré and Miguel Llobet, and she is widely recognized for her work with Guitar Salon International, where her performances have reached a global audience.
Today, Jennifer Kim continues to build a dynamic international career, bringing a rare combination of technical brilliance, musical maturity, and artistic depth to concert stages around the world.
Join us for an inspiring evening with Jennifer Kim in the intimate setting of the Pacific Grove Art Center, celebrating exceptional artistry and the future of classical guitar as part of the Carmel Guitar Society 2026 concert series.
