Jay Leyda (1910-1988) was a filmmaker, film historian, translator and author of definitive works on, among others, the compilation film, Chinese cinema and Sergei Eisenstein with whom he studied in Moscow from 1933 to 1936. In a world marked by ideological fronts, he followed his passion for everything to do with the creation of films and their archival survival – writing, researching, traveling, living in New York, Moscow, Los Angeles, London, Beijing, and East Berlin. Our program pays tribute to a key figure of an "international film history following ideas instead of geographic boundaries." (Jay Leyda). Program
