About this Event

We’ll cover the fundamentals of plant dyes, including the different types of fabric and how to prepare them for dyeing, how to create your own plant dye baths, and how to overdye and make color modifications.

Each participant will dye their own 100% merino wool fisherman beanie (one size fits all), to move into the Fall and Winter season with. We will have scrap fabric to test multiple colors before deciding on your final beanie color!

This class is perfect for those curious about the world of natural dyes, both beginners and experienced dyers alike. We’ll deepen our appreciation for local plants and perspectives around sustainability, slow fashion and textile choices, and our local Colorado Fibershed mission.

All materials included in cost, including beanie, scrap fabrics, mordanting materials, and dyes.

Cost:

$85 with all materials included. 100% Merino Wool Short Fisherman Beanie, 3 plant dye colors to choose from (ability to mix colors for myriad of new colors!), test fabric samples for experimentation and learning.

Cady Faus is a natural dyer and mixed media artist based in Boulder, Colorado. Passionate about our local Fibershed and slow food and fashion movements, her art practice seeks an understanding of and connection to natural material, history and place, and self and community. She has traveled internationally to study the arts of natural dye and has learned Katazome and Tsutsugaki techniques from experts in Japan, Mexico, and California. Her current focus combines elements of traditional arts with modern-day methods, all the while paying attention to sustainability, stewardship, and collaboration between farmers and artists. Cady believes curiosity without judgement is the best tool in the arts of natural dyeing.
