Originating from the island of Java, Batik is a traditional fabric dyeing technique using a tool called tjanting (canting) or a tjap (cap) printing block to apply hot wax in elaborate patterns. The wax serves as a barrier, preventing dye from reaching certain areas of the fabric. Celebrated for its artistic and cultural significance, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia, Batik adorns traditional attire and plays a role in various ceremonial contexts. Join us for a 3 hour meditative workshop and immerse yourself in this captivating technique. We will introduce you to the fundamentals, including the proper use of the tjanting.
