Join us in the woodlands for a nourishing and empowering afternoon celebrating International Women's Day with folklore and forest bathing
About this Event

Join us in private woodlands at Rushcliffe Country Park on International Women's Day to celebrate and empower each other as women through the medium of 'Folklore and Forest Bathing'.

How can folklore and stories shape our understanding of the experience of women in society, both present and past? How can myths and legends help us to understand, and ultimately reclaim, our power as women?

While women have often been sidelined from the dominant narrative of official histories, resigned to footnotes and exceptions, the oral history of folklore has remained a space for us explore the voices, experiences and stories of the feminine. From fairies to witches, this seems particularly true of 'forest folklore' and the stories, myths and legends that shape our understanding of the natural world.

Through exploring the exciting and curious world of forest folklore, we can see behind the curtain of the male-dominant patriarchal histories and begin to connect with and understand the power that women have always held beneath the surface.

This event will give us as women an opportunity to discover this world together, through our exciting guided 'Women in Forest Folklore' walk and talk, as well as giving us space to share our own stories around our woodland circle.

It will also be a wonderful opportunity for us to relax and connect to the woodland space through our deeply nourishing forest bathing invitations.

Schedule:

  • Welcome and Introduction
  • Guided 'Women in Forest Folklore' woodland wander
  • Guided Forest Bathing (including 20 minute guided meditation style invitation)
  • Warm cup of freshly foraged spring tea
  • Reflection and close

What is Forest Bathing?

Forest Bathing, or ‘shinrin yoku’ in Japanese, is the wonderfully restorative, mindfulness-based practice of immersing oneself in the forest, woodland or any green space,  using your senses to connect to the natural world around you.

The event will be guided by a qualified Forest Therapy Practitioner. Additional information will be sent out to all attendees 2 days before the event by email - if you have not received it by then, please check your spam then message me at [email protected].
