About this Event
On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, DC presents a special screening of Soy Nevenka, directed by Icíar Bollaín. The film revisits the landmark case of Nevenka Fernández, whose 2001 complaint against a local politician became a turning point in Spain’s public reckoning with sexual harassment and abuse of power.
With rigor and sensitivity, Soy Nevenka reconstructs the personal, political, and media pressures surrounding the case, shedding light on the cost of speaking out and the structural barriers faced by women who challenge entrenched systems. More than two decades later, the story resonates with renewed urgency, underscoring the global relevance of accountability, institutional responsibility, and gender equality.
This screening invites audiences to reflect on the progress achieved — and the work that remains — in advancing women’s rights.
