Can American Companies Be Held Accountable?
About this Event

Russian drones striking Ukrainian cities are not built in isolation. Investigations reveal Western — including American — components inside weapons used in attacks that have repeatedly killed civilians across Ukraine. Award-winning investigative journalist and PBS NewsHour Special Correspondent Simon Ostrovsky, known for exposing Russian military operations through groundbreaking open-source investigations, presents new findings tracing how sanctioned supply chains continue to feed Russia’s war machine.

Drawing on ongoing investigative work Ostrovsky will examine efforts to document battlefield evidence linking specific technologies to civilian casualties and the emerging legal question: can American companies be held accountable when their products end up inside weapons used in unlawful attacks? This discussion confronts the uncomfortable intersection of global commerce, sanctions enforcement failures, and corporate responsibility — asking whether modern warfare has outpaced the legal systems meant to restrain it.

Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided.
RSVP is recommended, and donations welcomed.

Simon Ostrovsky is an award-winning investigative journalist and Special Correspondent for PBS NewsHour. A former VICE News correspondent and Agence France-Presse bureau chief, he is widely known for frontline reporting on Russia’s war against Ukraine and conflicts across Eurasia and the Middle East. His duPont Award-winning documentary Selfie Soldiers pioneered the use of open-source investigations (OSINT) to expose Russian military involvement in eastern Ukraine at a time of official Russian denial. Ostrovsky has reported extensively on authoritarian systems, war economies, and human- rights abuses, including forced labor networks and sanctions evasion. His work has earned Emmy, duPont, and Overseas Press Club honors and has helped shape international understanding of modern conflict, accountability, and the realities of war reporting.
