About this Event

Each year, the International Day of Protest Against Shock Treatment brings attention to one of the most controversial practices in mental health: electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), commonly known as shock treatment.

This Open House offers a clear, fact-based look at:

  • What shock treatment is
  • Its documented effects on patients
  • The ongoing debate surrounding its use
  • The importance of informed consent and human rights in mental health care

Hosted at the Founding Church of Scientology of Washington, DC, this event provides an opportunity for community members, educators, and advocates to better understand the issue—and what can be done about it.
